About us

Where ruhkun comes from

The name ruhkun brings together two Arabic words.

Rūh, رُوح, speaks of the soul, the breath within.

Rukn, رُكْن, means the pillar, the support you can rely on.

Together they gave their name to a brand of everyday objects made to hold up when the weather turns.

Our first object: the StormHook

Umbrellas get left at the café, forgotten on the train and flipped by the first gust. The StormHook answers all three: a frame of 10 double ribs in fiberglass that bends in the wind and springs back, one-handed opening and closing, and a carabiner handle that clips to your bag.

What we set out to do

Make simple, sturdy, useful objects that go wherever your day takes you, rain or shine.
